THE Setons will become the first family to have had three generations compete in the Great Race when Aaron lines up for the Repco Bathurst 1000 this October.
Aaron has signed to co-drive with Jack Le Brocq at Matt Stone Racing, the same team for which he competes in the Dunlop Super2 Series.
The 24-year-old is the son of two-time Australian Touring Car Champion Glenn Seton and grandson of Barry ‘Bo’ Seton, who won the Great Race in 1965.
Glenn repeatedly fell short of a Bathurst triumph in 26 starts, famously coming within nine laps of victory in 1995, but did score four podium finishes and two pole positions.
Aaron is forging a promising career in his own right and is currently in his second Super2 season with MSR after winning the Trans Am Series.
He’s already had plenty of experience at Mount Panorama, having started the Bathurst 12 Hour three times and recorded his maiden Super2 podium at the venue last year.
“It’s very special and surreal to be the third generation Seton to do the Bathurst event,” said Aaron.
“Obviously, my pop won it back in 1965 and then dad came so close in ’95 so it will be a special moment to go to the event for my first time as a driver and give it a red-hot crack as Jack and I try to aim for that top step.”
Seton will be on double-duties at Bathurst as he continues his Super2 campaign, although he’ll step back from mechanical work on the Commodore to concentrate on his driving.
Le Brocq, 29, lines up for his eighth Bathurst 1000 start this year having scored a best finish of fourth alongside Cameron Waters at Tickford Racing in 2016.
Said Le Brocq of Seton: “He is a great young fella and I’ve been able to get to know him quite well throughout the year.
“I am looking forward to teaming up with him; third generation Seton in the sport to do Bathurst is pretty cool and I reckon we will have a pretty good run.
“It’s great that Aaron’s actually running in the Dunlop series as well over the Bathurst weekend.
“I’ve done it many times before when I was a co-driver and it’s really crucial to just get those laps in around there.
“It’s a very daunting place at the best of times and it will be very full on, so for Aaron to be able to compliment his running with his Dunlop series program will allow us to get the most out of him come Sunday.”
The Repco Bathurst 1000 will take place on October 6-9.
