Bathurst 12 Hour grid bolstered by Mercedes powerhouse

SIXTH time lucky. That’s the hope for Craft-Bamboo Racing with its return to Mount Panorama confirmed.

The Hong Kong team has often been a contender since finishing outright third on Bathurst debut in 2015.

They’ve been aligned with Mercedes since 2019, qualifying on the front row at The Mountain both on that occasion and the following year.

But it was last May when their finest Bathurst performance came, Maro Engel leading their charge to second place having started last due to an engine change which forced them to miss qualifying.

Craft-Bamboo is yet to announce its driver line-up or livery for next month’s event, but will enter the outright Pro class.

“The Bathurst 12 Hour has a special place in our hearts – which is why, despite all the challenges in 2022, we made the trip over to compete in this iconic event,” said team director Darryl O’Young.

“We have come close so many times, but have yet to take the win here in Bathurst as a team.

“We have worked hard on the preparation for this year’s event, taking all the years of experience here to try and use that to our advantage.

“This year’s race will have a lot of strong competition, so we will have to be sharp to have a chance at the outright victory.”

Craft-Bamboo finished last year strongly, winning the Indy 8 Hour in October and the Macau Grand Prix GT event in November.

The 2023 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour will unfold across February 3-5.
