Bathurst debut arrives for TV commentator’s team

THE team being launched by Australian motorsport commentator Richard Craill has unveiled its debut colours to run this weekend at Bathurst.

Johnston Craill Racing Enterprises launched its Aussie Racing Cars livery today in front of the National Motor Racing Museum’s tribute to Peter Brock.

Underpinned by primary backing from Check it Out Graphics and The Race Torque, the orange-and-black Mustang-bodied car will be driven by team co-owner Asher Johnston, while Craill is on broadcast duties for other support categories across the February 23-25.

Its presence in the 33-car field at Mount Panorama follows private outings at Mallala and The Bend.

“It’s been a long road getting to this point so to see the car here at Mount Panorama and ready to race, is surreal,” said Johnston.

“We’re very proud of the way the car looks and to show it off in front of the statue of the hero who inspired both Craillsy and I as kids, is pretty special.

“We’ve been flat out since late last year going through every part of the car and making it as good as it possibly can be.

“We’re not underestimating the challenge of stepping into a category like Aussie Racing Cars. It’s hugely competitive and there are some incredibly talented drivers and strong teams involved. We’re going into this with eyes open knowing the challenge ahead.

“At the same time, we’ve given ourselves every opportunity to be competitive.

“We make no bones about the fact we want to challenge for the rookie honours this year and we think that is a goal we can achieve.

“We shook the car down at Mallala and then had a really positive day at The Bend which was incredibly valuable ahead of Bathurst to get an understanding of the car on a high-speed circuit.

“We’re as prepared as we can be and the rest is up to the Mountain giving us a hand and being kind to us this weekend.

“We have to send special thanks to everyone who has helped get us to this point and hopefully we can deliver some results for them this weekend.”

Among the Aussie Racing Cars field at Bathurst will be 2023 series champion Joel Heinrich and former TCR Australia regular Kody Garland.
