Best denies Wood second straight Super2 pole

DUNLOP Super2 Series leader Zak Best has dug deep to grab pole position for the opening race at Wanneroo Raceway today.

Teenagers Ryan Wood (Walkinshaw Andretti United) and Brad Vaughan (Tickford Racing) starred throughout Friday practice and looked set to share the front row this afternoon.

That is, until Best banged in a last ditch 55.5521s to knock Wood off top spot by a mere 0.0100s.

The Anderson Motorsport driver is therefore in the box seat to extend the series lead he grabbed in Newcastle, with nearest title rival Cooper Murray (Eggleston Motorsport) qualifying fifth.

Young blood shone through as the six spots behind Best belonged to rookies while the likes of Aaron Seton and Jack Perkins struggled.

Perkins in fact qualified behind Super3 pole-sitter Cameron McLeod, who managed 14th outright.

Today’s 40-minute race starts at 2:15pm local time (4:15pm AEST).
