Biggest ever SuperUtes field for 2023 opener

WANNEROO Raceway will this weekend play host to the biggest utes field since the category’s original V8 concept ended in 2017.

A bumper 19-strong entry list has been confirmed for the season-opener, which takes place in support of Supercars’ Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint.

Among those who had already been confirmed were utes legend Ryal Harris, 2022 title winner Aaron Borg, former Super2 veteran Adam Marjoram and Olympic medallist John Steffensen.

Now the entire list has been uncovered (full entry list below), in what is comfortably the strongest field of the SuperUtes era.

Six marques will be represented: Ford, General Motors, Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota.

“It’s a fantastic turnout considering not just the huge travel and logistics required to compete on the other side of the country, but also that we have five new car builds competing at Round 1 as well,” said category operations manager Filippa Guarna.

“Last year we made a conscious effort to streamline the operations of the category and work on our future growth and that meant more cars.

“It’s no secret that more cars would mean better racing and now we have 19 SuperUtes for Perth with some of the best young talent of amazing pedigree.

“The aim is to not to just build a strong category but be a leader in market relevance as well.

“The twin-cab ute spectator base is super passionate and supportive of what we’re doing, so racing across five different states and with some new rounds this year will help us grow even more.

“Everyone in the paddock is super excited for the season ahead.”

Other support categories at the Perth SuperSprint will be the Dunlop Super2/3 Series, GT World Challenge Australia and WA Historic Touring Cars.
