BJR back to Queensland in search of ‘magic sauce’

BRAD Jones Racing will tomorrow make its second appearance of the year at Queensland Raceway after a wretched run in Perth.

Having started the season on the back foot, BJR rebounded last month by grabbing a drought-ending victory in New Zealand via Andre Heimgartner.

But that form was made to look like an outlier as the four-car BJR fleet found itself towards the rear at Wanneroo Raceway, with 13th for Heimgartner in Race 1 the best it could manage in the west.

So, as had been the case prior to Taupō, the Albury squad will head north for a Jaxon Evans rookie test at Ipswich in search of answers (as opposed to utilising the team’s home track, Winton).

“I think we really need another test day under our belt, try learn some stuff and regroup as a team, go through all the data and try and find some magic sauce and go faster,” Evans said after the Perth SuperSprint.

It was a similar vibe from Heimgartner: “(We) need to go away, do some testing and try and figure out a few things to unlock some more speed.”

The #12 SCT Camaro will not be the only car on-track tomorrow at QR, with Matt Stone Racing, Dick Johnson Racing, PremiAir Racing and Triple Eight wildcard Cooper Murray also testing.

“We feel we learnt a lot more running at Queensland Raceway recently for our first rookie test, even though there was only one car running there on the day,” added Evans, who recently took part in a 24 Hours of Spa test.

BJR’s Bryce Fullwood will have a boost for his home race in Darwin, with regular race engineer Phil Keed due to return after missing Perth.
