BJR ‘less confused than some other people’

BRAD Jones Racing hasn’t fully figured out Gen3 but is further down the road than some of its rivals, says lead driver Andre Heimgartner.

The Kiwi holds sixth in the championship with four podiums to his name – matching his 2022 tally just five rounds into this season.

Heimgartner was on the podium both Sunday races in Darwin, providing momentum into Townsville where BJR has historically been quick.

“Everyone is still learning but I think right now we’re less confused than some other people, which is awesome,” said the #8 driver.

“I think Townsville has been a happy hunting ground and a place we all like going. We’ll all go back to Queensland and enjoy the heat in Townsville.

“It’s very different, it’s a street track and it’s very rough, very short corners compared to Darwin.

“Hidden Valley has very long loaded corners, so Townsville is a very different challenge.”

Team owner Brad Jones expressed just how much faith the squad has in Heimgartner’s ability in the wake of his Darwin success.

“Any time he is not in the top five then we’re looking to see what’s wrong with the car,” said Jones.

“He fits really well, we get along great, and I couldn’t ask for a better leader.”

Teammate Bryce Fullwood is also having a strong run in 2023, positioned 12th in the points, while Macauley Jones and Jack Smith are 21st and 24th respectively.
