Brown philosophical after second-half slump

WILL Brown will recharge his batteries and look to build a sustained championship challenge next year after experiencing a season of two halves.

Brown led the championship at the midway point of this season but his form dropped off dramatically in the final five rounds – the start of that slump coinciding with news breaking that he’d leave Erebus Motorsport for Triple Eight in 2024.

After collecting nine podiums in 19 races prior to The Bend, he went podium-less thereafter and finished fifth in the championship.

Throughout, he appeared to maintain a good relationship with champion teammate Brodie Kostecki, who threw some lighthearted barbs Brown’s way on stage at the Supercars Gala on Monday night.

For his part, Brown expressed his congratulations to Kostecki and the team.

“What a year it has been,” said the 25-year-old.

“For Brodie to win the championship is absolutely amazing, Erebus’ first championship and for us to also take out the teams’ championship is great.”

It wasn’t the fairytale goodbye to Erebus that Brown had wished for though, victim of a Lap 1 tangle on the Saturday race in Adelaide, before nursing his wounded #9 Camaro to 14th on Sunday.

“I’d just like to thank everyone at Erebus for the last six years. It has been a fantastic six years,” said Brown.

“We had an awesome start to the season. It’s been a pretty disappointing end to the season for myself and my side of the team but that’s life.”

Brown will be teammates with Broc Feeney next year at Triple Eight, while Jack Le Brocq joins Erebus alongside Kostecki.
