Brown tests sprintcar, eyes competitive debut

SUPERCARS championship contender Will Brown has become the category’s latest driver to dip his toes into the world of speedway.

Brown headed out to Sydney International Speedway at Eastern Creek for a test last night and was wowed by the experience.

“I was quite lucky, one of my personal sponsors Lancaster GMSV sponsor a car, which is Sean Dyson’s car,” Brown told V8 Sleuth.

“It’s an awesome set-up and team he has got there so I was able to chat to them and they were keen to give me a go and give me a bit of a test day, so it was cool to jump in and see what they’re like.

“It’s actually phenomenal to see how fast they can go round a dirt track, you don’t expect it to have that sort of grip and be able to go that fast.

“It was actually at the start, not scary, but you have got to get used to it and then you build up on it.”

Having seen fellow Supercars frontrunners Cam Waters, Shane van Gisbergen and Erebus Motorsport teammate Brodie Kostecki race sprintcars, Brown has his sights set on a debut of his own.

“I think we might have a look at it at the end of the year, maybe racing it,” he said.

“It was also just one of those things to tick off the box.

“Obviously it’s the pinnacle of dirt with a sprintcar and to have a go in one was just really cool and probably something since watching Brodie and Shane and all them have a run, I thought it would be cool to have a go myself.”

Brown and Kostecki will fly out on Thursday to attend this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway as guests of Richard Childress Racing.

Before then, his #9 Coca-Cola Camaro Supercar is due to run at Winton Motor Raceway tomorrow as Erebus conducts an evaluation day for Super2 young guns Cooper Murray and Jay Hanson.
