Brown’s view on Kostecki absence, replacing SVG

WILL Brown has expressed hope that a resolution will be reached to allow former Erebus Motorsport teammate Brodie Kostecki to race in Supercars this season.

Kostecki will miss the first round since being crowned champion, with Todd Hazelwood to drive the #99 Camaro at the Thrifty Bathurst 500 on February 23-25.

It’s anticipated Kostecki might have driven his last race for Erebus; several rival teams are known to have checked in with the 26-year-old in recent weeks.

In mid-2022, Kostecki and Brown were simultaneously announced on contract extensions through 2024; the latter eventually secured an early release to join Triple Eight this off-season.

“I’ve reached out to him,” Brown told Seven News Brisbane on the weekend.

“He’s a great mate of mine, and he’s a true champion.

“It’s really sad not to see him on the grid.

“We want the champion out there; he’s the benchmark right now and he needs to be on the grid, so something needs to be sorted.”

As for the topic of succeeding three-time champion Shane van Gisbergen, Brown was relatively relaxed.

“Obviously van Gisbergen was massive for the sport and he has gone off to do NASCAR and what he has dreamt to do, so to take over from where he left and try to perform will be awesome,” he said.

“A little bit of pressure there but I’m not feeling it just yet, luckily.”

Brown will test at Queensland Raceway today, two days after his team unveiled its 2024 Red Bull Ampol livery at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.
