Castrol Bathurst Grid Card tradition continues

ONE of the traditions of the annual Bathurst 1000 is the Castrol Grid Card – a tradition that continues at this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

Available on race morning and featuring the full grid for the upcoming race including drivers’ names, images of each car and their qualifying times, the cards have been a Bathurst institution since the late 1970s.

Originally printed with the grid simply listed in text, they morphed into full colour with an image of each car in the Supercars era and have remained a popular collectable among Bathurst 1000 fans.

Castrol has entrusted V8 Sleuth with the production of this year’s Bathurst Grid Card, which will be available on race morning, Sunday October 9, from the bp activation area in merchandise alley in Harris Park.

Fans unable to attend this year’s race in person will be able to order a 2022 Castrol Grid Card to add to their collection via the V8 Sleuth Superstore, which will stock a very limited number of the cards.

“The Castrol Grid Card is a part of Bathurst tradition and we’re excited to partner with the team at V8 Sleuth to bring the 2022 version to life,” explained Jan Willink, Brand & Product Marketing Manager for Castrol.

“We’re proud of our long history with the Bathurst 1000, a race which Castrol-backed cars have won a record 20 times over the years dating back to its early days as a 500-mile race for production cars.

“With Thomas Randle and Zak Best at the wheel of the Castrol Racing Mustang – in addition to the likes of Cam Waters, James Courtney and Jake Kostecki from Tickford Racing – we hope 2022 sees another chapter of history written at the Mountain.”

Older versions of the Castrol Grid Cards from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s sell for significant sums among collectors.

This year’s ‘Great Race’ will be held on October 6-9 at Mount Panorama and forms Round 11 and Race 30 of this year’s Repco Supercars Championship.

This year is the 62nd ‘Great Race’ at Bathurst and will feature a 28-car field consisting of the 25 full-time Repco Supercars Championship cars and three wildcard entries led by Bathurst legends Craig Lowndes and Greg Murphy.
