Champion to debut new Mazda in Darwin

RYAL Harris will look to get his V8 SuperUte title campaign back on track with the help of a new Mazda BT-50.

Harris put the car through its paces at a Queensland Raceway shakedown last week and will race it for the first time this weekend at the Darwin Triple Crown.

A five-time champion across three eras of ute racing, Harris is on the back foot after a Bathurst season-opener to forget in his previous Ford Ranger.

Now back in Mazda machinery, the 38-year-old is upbeat about taking the fight to perennial frontrunner Aaron Borg.

“The car ran faultlessly and was quick straight out of the box, I can’t ask for more than that,” said Harris.

“Rod Dawson and the boys have built a great car and I am very much appreciative of the efforts put in by all involved.”

V8 SuperUtes is one of four categories supporting the Repco Supercars Championship in Darwin, along with Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, Touring Car Masters and Combined Sedans.
