Coca-Cola Porsche for pumped-up Pither

CHRIS Pither’s 2023 ride has broken cover, with Coca-Cola continuing its support of the Kiwi as he pivots to Porsche Carrera Cup Australia.

The Supercars veteran enters the season looking to add to his tally of championships, having won titles in Australian and New Zealand V8 Utes as well as the Dunlop Super2 Series.

Pither was last week unveiled as part of EMA Motorsport’s expanded Porsche program.

The 36-year-old has briefly sampled teammate Garnet Patterson’s car at Winton, while his own entry later had a shakedown in the hands of Michael Almond.

“There was probably a number of things that appealed,” Pither told V8 Sleuth of Carrera Cup.

“For me, I have always taken a keen interest in Carrera Cup and if I’m being completed honest, it hasn’t really worked out as well as I’d hoped, the last couple of seasons in the main (Supercars) championship so I’m looking forward to something new.

“It’s an exciting prospect for me. The cars are all the same, obviously it’s a one-make championship, so it comes down to the driver and team and engineer, how you can extract the most speed out of that car.

“It’s going to be a challenge. It’s a new car for me to learn, I haven’t driven my car yet but it’s exciting.”

Pither is yet to lock in a Supercars co-drive for this year but remains hopeful of making a 14th Bathurst 1000 start come October.

“I would still love to do the enduros,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to the Porsche program and at the end of the day it’s going to be some good seat time for me too prior to the enduros, so I think doing this is going to put me in an even better position to secure a co-drive.”

Of his #42 Porsche’s livery, Pither added: “I’m always proud to represent Coca-Cola and I think the car looks amazing.

“It’s clean and simple but stands out and I think it would have to be one of the best looking cars out there.”

There will be a stack of Supercars experience on the Carrera Cup grid this weekend at Albert Park, with David Russell, Alex Davison, Dale Wood, David Wall and Dylan O’Keeffe also on the 30-strong Round 1 entry list.
