DAVISON SEALS EMOTIONAL TITLE

RICHARD Davison has followed in his son’s footsteps to clinch the 2022 Victorian Formula Ford Championship (1600/Kent class).

Still running the Wynn’s livery used by older son Alex in 1998 – paying tribute to the late Garry Dumbrell – Davison Sr took a cleansweep of the round in class at the Phillip Island finale to seal the deal.

The 68-year-old was at the wheel of the same car which Alex drove in national Formula Ford before it powered younger brother Will to the 2000 state title.

“It means a great deal,” he told Blend Line TV, holding back tears.

“It’s 22 years since Will did the same thing in this car.

“Will sent me a message this morning just saying, ‘it’s a margherita pizza: do the simple things really well, concentrate on what you want to do, not what you don’t want to do’.

“I think that was great advice.

“Seeing both my boys through Formula Ford in this car go onto great things, watching the standard of racing this weekend on Blend Line TV, watching the replays, it just confirms everything we all know, that this category is second to none for training young guys.

“It’s close racing, wheel to wheel.”

Matthew Hillyer won the round outright from Edison Beswick and Kobi Williams.

Will and Alex Davison will team up for the Repco Bathurst 1000, driving the Shell V-Power Racing Team #17 Mustang across October 6-9.
