DE PASQUALE’S BURGEONING BUSINESS

ANTON De Pasquale has opened up about the business he co-founded during the heart of the COVID-19 crisis.

The Shell V-Power Racing Team driver gave a rare insight into life away from the track in this week’s V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Repco.

De Pasquale was among a group that launched GIFTA in 2020, which describes itself as “a digital gift card platform that transforms the way we send and receive gift cards”.

“Say you’re going to buy all your boys a present for being good, a Christmas bonus, you can get your own sort of branded digital card, or physical – but digital is the way to go – and send it out to all your employees and they can then go to any of the stores on the app,” he elaborated.

“You can do $100: $20 here, $20 there; use it all at once; save it; whatever you want to do. It goes well.”

Now well clear of the crucial 12-month do-or-die period for new small businesses, the eight-time Repco Supercars Championship race winner is keen to see how GIFTA evolves.

“It was just a group of people that had an idea and then everyone that’s involved sort of has a set of assets that could make it work essentially,” De Pasquale continued.

“One guy can make all of the software, one guy can do this, one guy can do that, and so on. It’s a ticking program.

“I mean me personally, I’m not involved too much in the day to day because I have all this stuff to worry about, racing is my main thing, but there is a full team out in Melbourne punching pretty hard and kicking some goals which is cool.

“We’ll see how it’s punching along in five, 10 years’ time.”

De Pasquale covers plenty more ground in the episode, including his upbringing on a vegetable farm, his early days of racing Todd Hazelwood and Joey Mawson, the little-known test he completed at Palm Beach in the United States, and Mark Larkham’s pivotal influence on his career.
