DJR ONE-TWO IN FRIDAY PUKEKOHE PRACTICE

THE Shell V-Power Racing Team has kept the Kiwi contingent at bay with Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison nabbing a one-two in Friday practice.

In the sole Supercars session of the day, De Pasquale saved his pace-setting 1:02.2066s until the final minute to knock New Zealand’s Andre Heimgartner off top spot.

Davison followed suit shortly after to wind up as De Pasquale’s nearest competitor, 0.2498s adrift.

De Pasquale expressed his delight at being back at Pukekohe for the first time since 2019 and explained the decision to run green tyres in Practice 1, with rain anticipated for tomorrow.

“We tossed and turned for a couple of weeks on what we were going to do there and thought why not?” said the #11 driver.

“We haven’t been here for a few years, go to sleep with a little bit of knowledge of what to expect tomorrow.

“It might put us on the back foot at some point but it worked out for now so we’ll see how we go.

“We have got a good read on the car so that’s the main thing of today.”

Heimgartner was the best of the Kiwis in third, despite losing time in the final sector.

Shane van Gisbergen and Cameron Waters rounded out the top five, both having endured scares.

Waters found the fence at Turn 4 early in the session, while van Gisbergen and Jake Kostecki later ran off at the hairpin.

Walkinshaw Andretti United were sixth and seventh courtesy of Chaz Mostert and Nick Percat; Macauley Jones, Lee Holdsworth and Jack Le Brocq were eighth through 10th.

Second and final practice starts 09:35 AEST/11:35 NZST tomorrow.
