DJR to reach epic milestone in Adelaide

AUSTRALIA’S most historic motorsport team will chalk up another significant first later this month.

The upcoming VAILO Adelaide 500 will represent Dick Johnson Racing’s 500th ATCC/Supercars Championship round start.

That will make the Ford squad the first to achieve the feat, having debuted in 1981 at Symmons Plains.

It was only last year at Bathurst that DJR became the maiden team to reach 1000 championship races.

That milestone was celebrated with a special retro livery, as well as a number of products which are available via the V8 Sleuth Superstore.

It’s unclear at this stage whether DJR will roll out anything in particular to commemorate its 500th round, at the 2023 finale on November 23-26.

The Stapylton squad has gone through various ups and downs over the years but continues to have a popular and prominent presence in Supercars, including as the Ford homologation team.

DJR is tied with Triple Eight for being behind the most drivers’ championship wins in category history, with 10 apiece. Triple Eight will move ahead if Shane van Gisbergen overhauls Brodie Kostecki in Adelaide.

DJR also has accumulated three teams’ championships (all from its Penske era) and four Bathurst 1000 victories.

In total, it has 145 pole positions, 148 race wins and 314 podiums across 499 rounds and 1030 races to date.

DJR is fourth in the 2023 teams’ championship, with Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison eighth and 11th respectively in the drivers’ standings.
