Double dose of Bargwanna for S5000 Tasman Series

BARGWANNA Motorsport will enter the S5000 Tasman Series, running cars for cousins Ben and Jude Bargwanna.

While Ben has multiple S5000 starts under his belt, it will be a category debut for Jude next week at the Gold Coast 500 – which will also mark his first time racing on a street circuit.

Another concrete-lined track, Adelaide, will host the second half of the series in early December.

“I drove the S5000 at The Bend for GRM at the S5000 open day… it’s a surreal experience, was speechless afterwards,” said Jude, who contested the Australian Formula Ford Series this year.

“I’d driven a Supercar, so something with a V8 and a slick Tyre, but the S5000 is so fast – the way it pushes you back in the seat is incredible.

“Ben gave me a bit of a hand at The Bend but when it comes to crunch time on the Gold Coast I don’t think he’ll be giving me any advice!”

Both Bargwanna cars will operate with support from Garry Rogers Motorsport, the team with which Ben’s father Jason won the 2000 Bathurst 1000.

“It’s going to be great to see proper high-powered open wheelers on the Gold Coast again,” said Jason.

“That track was designed for this kind of race car. I love that track. The Adelaide Parklands circuit speaks for itself and I am sure we are just a few of the 200,000 fans that can’t wait to be back there and part of the event.

“We have taken on the Bathurst 6 Hour together and the Tasman Series is the next step. Scott (brother) and I are keen to work with the boys at two of the greatest tracks and events in the country.

“I am sure they will both have their eyes wide open after their first few laps at both these tracks. They will earn their keep mastering these events, as they continue building, and expanding on their careers.”

Ben meanwhile is keen to see how the S5000 machinery fares on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

“When you go look at YouTube videos of onboard stuff from there you get into all the IndyCar and Champ Car stuff and all sort of different cars that have raced there,” said the TCR Australia race winner.

“It will be pretty cool to see what an S5000 is capable of there.”

There is history of Bargwanna success at the Gold Coast, Jason having won a Supercars race there in 2002 and grabbed a shock pole position in 2009.

Other drivers confirmed for the S5000 Tasman Series include GRM duo Nathan Herne and Jordan Boys.
