Extreme heat postpones Mallala meet

HISTORIC Mallala Motorsport Park has been subjected to an unusual circumstance, with a race meeting postponed due to forecast heat.

It has been announced that the twilight-run Round 2 of the South Australian Motor Racing Championship has been moved from March 8-9 to April 20.

“In the interest of safety for the officials who would need to work in these conditions along with drivers and their vehicles the tough decision to postpone has been made,” confirmed the Sporting Car Club of SA, which The Bend now co-promotes the state series with.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting temperatures of 39 degrees tomorrow and 41 on Saturday for the Mallala region.

Categories listed for Round 2 of the SAMRC include Improved Production SA, Saloon Cars, HQ Holdens, SA Sports Sedans, Formula Vee/Formula Ford and Porsche Club Supersprint.

Having first opened in 1961 and since hosted an Australian Grand Prix plus several Australian Touring Car Championship events, Mallala is these days owned and operated by the Peregrine Corporation – which is also the company behind The Bend Motorsport Park.
