F3 champion set for Radical race against mother

AUSTRALIAN Formula 3 champion Jon Collins will have some familiar competition when he races on the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint undercard this weekend.

Collins has joined the Radical Cup Australia field for Wanneroo Raceway, where his mother Sue Hughes will also be in action.

The duo are among a 22-strong entry list that will take part in a trio of races in the west.

Collins won the 2015 F3 title, although confirmation of that didn’t come until more than a year later amid an appeal from competitor Ricky Capo.

Collins will race for GWR, with stablemate Peter Paddon leading the series after a successful showing at Phillip Island.

Also added to the Radical grid will be Elliott Schutte, the driver who shares an Arise Racing Ferrari with Supercars rookie Jaxon Evans in GT World Challenge Australia.

Schutte does have history in Radicals, having been the round winner when the category last visited Wanneroo in 2022.

Blanchard Racing Team Supercars young gun Aaron Love holds the Radical lap record at Wanneroo with a 54.6375s set in 2019.

Radical Cup is one of five categories on the Perth SuperSprint bill, alongside the Repco Supercars Championship, Dunlop Series, Touring Car Masters and Aussie Racing Cars.

The latter has announced 24 entries for this weekend.
