Ford Supercars engine program’s big coup

FORD’S control Supercars engine program has secured a big win with the recruitment of industry veteran Ryan Medew.

V8 Sleuth understands Medew has been signed by Motorsport Powertrains – the division established by Dick Johnson Racing after it bought out Herrod Performance Engines – and appointed to the position of engine shop manager.

Medew has spent the past two decades at Walkinshaw Racing, first as an engine technician before being promoted to engine department manager.

His experience prior to Clayton includes a stint with Gibson Motorsport.

Medew effectively replaces Bobby Ervin, who departed earlier this season.

Motorsport Powertrains, which services all five Ford Supercars squads, has undergone extensive efforts to bring the 5.4-litre Coyote DHOC up to standard with its 5.7-litre Chevrolet/KRE pushrod counterpart.

While it’s generally accepted that engine parity has improved, transient dyno testing remains on the agenda, albeit with no fixed timeline.
