Ford’s Supercars parity win ahead of Perth

SUPERCARS is set to announce an engine mapping update for the 11-strong Ford fleet in the latest bid to ensure parity between its rival Gen3 models.

V8 Sleuth revealed last week that Ford was awaiting an answer from the category regarding a request it had made on the engine front.

An alleged straight-line speed deficit emerged from Mustang teams during the course of the Melbourne SuperSprint, where all 12 podium placings went to Chevrolet drivers.

Now, it is understood that new maps will be installed in time for this weekend’s Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint, with improved throttle response among the expected outcomes.

It’s the third tweak in the past two months following a Gen3 parity saga which first escalated in December last year.

Last-minute aerodynamic testing was carried out before the Newcastle season-opener, resulting in a slight change to the Camaro and renewed confidence across the board.

Even then, Ford Performance global boss Mark Rushbrook flagged that engine comparisons would need to be closely monitored – leading to this point.

There has also been a minor Centre of Gravity adjustment to the Camaro, following testing carried out post-Albert Park.

Supercars action at Wanneroo Raceway kicks off with a 90-minute practice session tomorrow.
