FOUR-YEAR DEAL FOR ADELAIDE MOTORSPORT FESTIVAL

THE Adelaide Motorsport Festival has been confirmed as the curtain-raiser to the next four editions of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation today announced that F1 will next year visit Albert Park across March 30 to April 2.

That has laid the platform for the Adelaide Motorsport Festival to reveal its corresponding dates the weekend prior, running across March 24-26.

The event, which last ran in 2018, was promised to be revived by South Australian Labor Party leader Peter Malinauskas, who was elected as premier in March.

Its medium-term future is now secure, with a four-year deal ensuring it will run as a prelude to the annual Grand Prix.

“We are pleased to announce our dates for the return of the Adelaide Motorsport Festival today,” said AMF event director Tim Possingham.

“These dates are absolutely perfect for us as we will be the week after the Adelaide Fringe festival concludes but yet a week prior to the Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix.

“Our team has been working on the content for the event and all I can say is that the timing of our event has drawn significant international interest whilst individuals who will be travelling from the Formula One events in the Middle East to Melbourne are compelled to arrive in Australia some four or five days earlier.

“They will be arriving in Adelaide and move on to the Melbourne Grand Prix after the Adelaide Motorsport Festival. This event will shift to the next level when we deliver it in late March.”

Of its place in the national motorsport landscape beyond next year, Possingham added: “We are ever grateful of the support that we have received from the Malinauskas State Government, which has allowed this incredibly successful event to return and grow to new heights.

“We can also announce today that we have recently signed a four-year agreement with the State Government to deliver this event which will run annually, the week prior to the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix.”

The 2023 Adelaide Motorsport Festival will follow the reborn VALO Adelaide 500 on December 1-4 this year.
