Fullwood: Adelaide abnormalities need investigating

BRYCE Fullwood has vented frustration at a disappointing end to the best season of his Supercars Championship career.

Fullwood was a big part in Brad Jones Racing scoring third in the 2023 teams’ title, proving a far better match for spearhead Andre Heimgartner than he did in year one at Albury.

While failing to secure a podium – he should have had two at Albert Park if not for unsafe release penalties – Fullwood established himself as belonging in the main game and was recently rewarded with a two-year BJR extension through 2025.

But Adelaide was something of a sour note to finish on, Fullwood lamenting being unable to take a trick in finishing 19th and 18th in the two races at the season finale.

“I’m not really sure what the go is,” said the #14 Middy’s Camaro driver.

“I feel like we’ve thrown everything and more at the car and nothing has really changed our world, which is very abnormal from every other time I’ve driven the car and every other round.

“So I just feel like we had a very different car that sort of didn’t respond to anything.

“I think that’s something we’re going to have to look through when we get back to the workshop. But we finished and it was awesome to consolidate third in the teams’ championship and 11th in the drivers’ so it’s still been a really positive season.

“It’s just a little bit tough pill to swallow.

“We know we have potential in these cars and as a team… I think if we felt like we weren’t a lot better we’d probably be a lot more content with the weekend.

“We’re really, really not very happy.”

Fullwood credited Heimgartner for carrying the team in Adelaide, which ensured BJR kept Tickford at bay in the teams’ championship.

BJR will have one change to its driver quartet next season, with Jack Smith stepping away. Zak Best is the hot favourite to replace him but is yet to be confirmed in the SCT-owned entry.
