GALLERY: CRAIG LOWNDES TESTS F1 CAR AT THE BEND

Craig Lowndes has had his first laps in the Dallara Formula 1 car he’s driving at The Bend Classic, amid final preparations at the circuit ahead of the two-day event.

The seven-time Bathurst winner is a star attraction in the 1989 Dallara F189 that car and circuit owner Sam Shahin topped the event’s Sunday afternoon Shootout in last year.

Lowndes completed a handful of trouble-free laps in the Cosworth V8 powered machine today during what was largely a setup day at the venue.

A record 140-plus cars are entered for the event which promoter Shahin hopes to grow into one of the world’s premiere motorsport festivals.

Here’s a small sample of the machinery that will be on track this weekend, as captured by the event’s media man Richard Craill.

The event features an array of classic and modern vehicles, from cars like a 1924 Mercedes-Benz to current GT vehicles, both featured below.
