GALLERY: Winterbottom’s milestone Supercars

AS you may have heard by now, Mark Winterbottom is due to make his 600th Supercars Championship race start today in the opening leg of the Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint.

So, as he prepares to join Craig Lowndes and Garth Tander in the exclusive club, V8 Sleuth looks back at the cars he has driven in various milestone races over the years.

First race: 2003 Sandown 500

Having just wrapped up the Konica Series (Super2) crown in commanding fashion, the Winterbottom/Stone Brothers Racing combination stepped up into the main game.

‘Frosty’ did a fine job to qualify 14th in the 35-strong field, and together with Mark Noske brought the #9 BA Falcon home in 11th.

50th race: 2005 Gold Coast, Race 3

Winterbottom’s first two full-time seasons came in Orrcon colours at Larkham Motorsport, laying the foundations for his move to Ford Performance Racing in 2006.

100th race: 2007 Winton, Race 2

By now, Winterbottom was a Supercars Championship race winner. But there wasn’t much to celebrate upon reaching the ton, starting 26th (per the progressive grid format) and finishing 20th.

200th race: 2010 Ipswich 300, Race 2

Race #200 was even less kind, Winterbottom retiring on the first lap after an incident with Lee Holdsworth.

500th race: 2019 Newcastle 500, Race 1

Having made a shock switch to Team 18 at the end of 2018, Winterbottom delivered a string of solid results including 10th in his 500th.
