GRM signs Formula Ford graduate for Trans Am

GARRY Rogers Motorsport has made its latest driver announcement for season 2024, handing a National Trans Am seat to little-known youngster Tom Davies.

The 21-year-old’s opportunity comes after dual campaigns last season in Australian Formula Ford and Toyota 86s, and follows his involvement in the 2023 GRM Combine.

Davies will run the #42 on the title-winning chassis used by James Moffat last year.

Moffat (who will be rewarded with a new chassis) and Edan Thornburrow will be among his teammates, that duo having previously been announced as returning to GRM’s Trans Am ranks this year.

“I’m pretty excited to get back with GRM as a driver this year, everyone is super knowledgeable about their profession and easy to get along with,” said Davies.

“I’ve always wanted to race a V8, and after exploring our options we thought it would be a great opportunity to race in Trans Am as they’re a challenging car to drive and be quick in. It’s also an extremely strong field to race against and cost-effective.

“I’m hoping for a strong year, I think this car really suits my driving style so it would be good to be amongst the top five this year.

“I think it’s a huge advantage having the experience in the team from my teammates, and I’m planning to learn as much as I can from them.”

Davies tested in Tasmania earlier this month while attending the 2024 edition of the GRM Combine.

“The test in Tassie went well, and I was able to get comfortable in the car quickly,” he said.

“It was definitely needed in order to get used to the car ahead of the first round, particularly the way it moves around and brakes. I’m feeling confident for the season ahead.”

Davies’ debut will come at Sandown on February 9-11.
