Heimgartner the catalyst for BJR’s newest recruit

ANDRE Heimgartner’s presence continues to grow at Brad Jones Racing, with the Kiwi revealed as a key figure in the team’s new Super2 signing.

Lochie Dalton has been plucked from the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series to steer BJR’s VF Commodore this weekend at Adelaide.

That arrangement has come in the wake of Elly Morrow splitting with the squad ahead of a move to Tickford Racing next season.

There’s every chance the Dalton/BJR alliance could extend into 2023, with Adelaide shaping up to be an audition of sorts.

“Absolutely, this is an opportunity for Lochie to jump in the car and have a look at what Super2 racing is all about,” team owner Brad Jones told V8 Sleuth.

“Hopefully it is going to lead to something more regular but it’s just a run in Adelaide, no pressure.

“We just want him to run around, get used to a Super2 car, stay out of trouble and hopefully if he does that he’ll have a great weekend. There’s no pressure on him to perform at all.”

Asked how the deal had come about, Jones described main game ace Heimgartner as the “catalyst”.

“It came through Andre. Pretty much Andre has a relationship there and some of the people that he works around were all sort of inter-connected in some way shape or form ultimately,” he said.

Jones has not been shy in praising Heimgartner’s leadership this year, telling V8 Sleuth in September: “He fits with the team, they would follow him over the edge of a cliff I think.”

He has backed that up on the track with four podium finishes to be in line for a top 10 championship ranking.
