How the engineer silly season is playing out

STABILITY in the Supercars driver market appears to have flowed across to the race engineering ranks for 2023.

After one of the tamer silly seasons for a few years, coinciding with the switch to Gen3 equipment, V8 Sleuth can reveal there will also be minimal changes in the gurus calling the shots.

That comes as Dick Johnson Racing last night extinguished rumours of change to its race engineering line-up.

Triple Eight Race Engineering, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Erebus Motorsport and Team 18 have also all confirmed unchanged driver/engineer combinations.

To recap, that has Shane van Gisbergen and Andrew Edwards looking to build on their record-breaking campaign and Broc Feeney with Martin Short for the third straight season (including their title-winning 2021 Super2 season).

Adam De Borre is with Chaz Mostert as usual, while rising star Adam Austin will step up for a full season on Car #2 with Nick Percat, that relationship having started after Grant McPherson was granted an early release following Bathurst to start as Grove Racing’s technical director.

Similarly continuing are Brodie Kostecki/George Commins and Will Brown/Tom Moore at Erebus, and Mark Winterbottom/Manuel Sanchez and Scott Pye/Richard Hollway at Team 18.

Mirko De Rosa continues race engineering at the Blanchard Racing Team, albeit now with Todd Hazelwood behind the wheel.

One team that will have change is Grove Racing, which has confirmed Alistair McVean but not Will Davidson for a race engineering position in 2023.

There could yet be a degree of change at Tickford Racing, Matt Stone Racing and PremiAir Racing, with those teams planning to announce their combinations in due course.

Brad Jones Racing is also taking a to-be-confirmed approach at this point in time.
