How to own a Bathurst 12 Hour car for under $10,000

THE V8 Sleuth team is always on the look-out for interesting stories and interesting cars for sale and we’ve found it recently with our friends at My105.

It’s rare to be able to find a car that has competed in the Bathurst 12 Hour (twice in fact!) that has a price tag of less than $10,000 – but we found one!

The car in question is a pink Holden Astra CDTi production car that was a Holden-backed entry built and run to showcase the diesel-powered Astra in the 2007 race – that event marked the return of the 12 Hour production car race at Mount Panorama.

Run by Paul Morris Motorsports and driven by the all-female line-up of Samantha Reid, Leanne Tander, Lauren Gray and Kiwi Christina Orr, the six-speed Astra backed by Bendon lingerie was a retirement from the race after 136 laps.

It returned to compete in the race again in 2009 but this time only lasted 94 laps in the hands of future Bathurst 1000 winner Lee Holdsworth, who shared it with brother Brett, dad Glen and Taz Douglas.

The Astra later did some production car racing but has been used in more recent times as purely a fun track car.

The My105 listing for the Astra says it would need the harness, window nets and fuel tank replaced and re-lifed, but nevertheless it remains a pretty good price for a car with an interesting Bathurst history!

Given the huge interest in the V6 Camry in this year’s Bathurst 6 Hour as the ‘cult’ car of this year’s Easter production car classic, could the diesel Astra take its mantle in 2025?

In a story that came out after he won the 2021 Bathurst 1000 it emerged that, after the Astra’s demise in the ’09 12 Hour, Lee Holdsworth headed to the top of the Mountain to ‘make peace’ with the Mountain.

Glen Holdsworth passed away last week and his son’s 2021 Bathurst-winning partner, Chaz Mostert, dedicated his Saturday win in Perth last weekend to him.

More information on the car can be found here via the My105 website.
