Hyundai Excels to battle for $10,000

A RECORD $10,000 purse has been announced for an upcoming two-round Hyundai Excel competition in Tasmania.

Promoted as the biggest prize for Excel racing in Australia, the ACL Hyundai Race Series will run on back-to-back weekends at Baskerville (March 10) and Symmons Plains (March 15-17).

The single-day Baskerville event will also host the Sparco Tassie Tin Tops, as well as demonstration laps by TCR, Trans Am and drift cars.

That leads into AWC Race Tasmania at Symmons Plains, where the Hyundai Race Series and Tassie Tin Tops will be joined on the competitive bill by TCR, Trans Am and the National Sports Sedan Series.

“We’re going down for our fourth year of AWC Race Tasmania. It all started with Garry (Rogers) being so enthusiastic about Tasmania, and the whole event was born off the back of that,” said Barry Rogers of the Australian Racing Group.

“Returning to Baskerville, we’re really looking to promote the local categories and especially so with the prize money that’s been put up.

“The demonstrations from TCR and Trans Am will add some grunt and some more excitement, and will be a great precursor to Race Tasmania.

“The first round of the season for TCR and Trans Am was very exciting, and that’ll continue at Symmons Plains which was always provides hard and close racing,”

The 2024 Shannons SpeedSeries opened earlier this month at Sandown, with Garry Rogers Motorsport taking a sweep of all six TCR and Trans Am races.
