ICONIC FORMAT FOR ADELAIDE 500 RETURN

KEY details have come to light regarding the first Adelaide 500 event in more than 30 months.

The Repco Supercars Championship has confirmed there will be two 250km races to round out the 2022 season.

It’s a familiar format for Supercars in Adelaide, although a three-race variety was used from 2014 to 2016.

There will be main game action on all four days, December 1-4, with a single half-hour practice session on each of the Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

A Top 10 Shootout will determine the first five rows of the grid for both Race 33 and Race 34.

Fans won’t have to wait until the weekend for a decisive session though, with opening qualifying to unfold on Friday before a Saturday Shootout and race.

All sessions relating to Race 34 will occur on the Sunday, while Dunlop’s hard tyre compound will be used throughout.

With the sprint format and therefore fastest lap bonus points not in play, a maximum of 300 points will be up for grabs.

Shane van Gisbergen leads the standings by 500 points from Cameron Waters after Round 9 of 13.

Support categories at the VALO Adelaide 500 will include the Super2/Super3 Series, Touring Car Masters, S5000 and GT World Challenge Australia.
