Jones hails teams’ championship success

BRAD Jones has expressed delight at his eponymous Supercars squad’s efforts being rewarded in the form of an equal-best teams’ championship result.

A fine sixth for Andre Heimgartner in the last race of the year helped BJR hold off Tickford Racing for third overall – matching its success of the first season in Car of the Future regulations in 2013.

It’s quite the step up, having been eighth in the 2022 teams’ championship.

Heimgartner scored six podiums and a pole position this year while Bryce Fullwood stepped up to give BJR two horses in the race more often than not; something which it did not have the previous season.

Adding to its 2023, BJR also won a fifth successive Pirtek Pitstop Challenge.

“The whole team have worked really hard this year to lift,” Jones told V8 Sleuth.

“They did an awesome job of building those cars, we were fast right from the get-go.

“Towards the end of the year we’ve struggled a little bit in qualifying but we’ve always had great race cars.

“Everyone here has just kept their head down and kept on working away at it and the reward for us is third in the teams’ championship, and rightly so.

“They do work hard, everyone is really committed here and very much puts their heart and soul into it, just like I do.

“It’s just reward I think, and a big move forward from where we were this year.”

Four-car BJR will accordingly occupy the third and fourth garages at next February’s Mount Panorama season-opener, although the switch to a live pitlane means its vantage point is not cemented beyond Round 1.

For its part, Tickford wasn’t too disheartened with fourth, which left it as the top Ford team.

“Given the challenge we’ve faced this year, to finish fourth in teams’ championship – just behind third – was probably a good result when we were only competitive for 20 per cent of the season,” said outgoing Tickford CEO Tim Edwards.
