Kelly’s major post-racing project set to open

SUPERCARS champion and two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Rick Kelly has revealed details and imagery of his soon-to-open Trentham Waters Resort.

Kelly has been chipping away at developing the Mildura facility since retiring from motorsport at the end of 2020, and is now on the home stretch to delivering his Palm Springs-inspired oasis.

“It’s certainly a shift in industries, but we’ve always enjoyed a challenge, and this would have to be one of the biggest!” said Kelly, who is collaborating on the project with his father John.

“Our vision is to create a destination that celebrates the essence of relaxation and adventure amidst the iconic Mildura landscape.”

Nestled by the Murray River, the resort is set to open in “late 2024 to early 2025”.

Stage 2 of the project will further involve a 119-home gated community named Trentham Waters Living.

“In my Supercars career, I travelled extensively, yet Mildura remains my favourite destination due to its climate, river, and surroundings,” said Kelly.

“After leaving Supercars, I wanted to give back to Mildura and share my love for the region.

“Trentham Waters Resort allows me to do just that, offering a unique experience that will attract new visitors and benefit the local community and businesses.

“Ken Ross, Tim Elstone, Daniel Linklater and the Wentworth Council Team have been fantastic in assisting us throughout the planning process and in helping to actualise the project.”

The development has drawn praise from Mildura Mayor Liam Wood.

“I’d like to congratulate Rick Kelly and his family for envisioning, planning and undertaking such a massive project in our region,” said Cr Wood.

“This project will provide so many benefits to both communities, whether it’s jobs during construction and once operational, or the significant visitor drawcard and economic driver the Resort will represent once completed.”

While Rick has exited the motorsport landscape, older brother Todd has relaunched Kelly Racing which is this year fielding two Ford Mustangs in Super2, for Aaron Cameron and Mason Kelly (the son of Todd).
