KMART BATHURST WINNER FOR SALE

V8 Sleuth to handle sale of Spiderman Murphy/Kelly 2004 winner

A SIGNIFICANT piece of Bathurst and V8 Supercar history has just been placed on the market for sale by the V8 Sleuth.

The 2004 Bob Jane T-Marts Bathurst 1000-winning Kmart Racing Commodore of Greg Murphy and Rick Kelly is now for sale.

The car featured the unique ‘Spiderman’ livery for that year’s race and claimed victory, giving Murphy and Kelly back-to-back Bathurst victories and Holden its sixth consecutive Mountain success.

Originally built as a VX Commodore by the Holden Racing Team in 2001 for Jason Bright, the car (HRT chassis 044) has a long and storied history in the V8 Supercars Championship.

It was driven by Bright in 2001 and 2002 before moving to Kmart Racing and being used by Todd Kelly and then his younger brother Rick. It was updated from VX to VY specification under the new ‘Project Blueprint’ era of V8 Supercars but retained the use of the existing 18-degree Chev engines.

It was last raced in the V8 Supercars Championship at Eastern Creek in 2004 by Murphy and was used in the Development Series for the next few seasons by Tony D’Alberto Racing, on behalf of whom the V8 Sleuth is handling the car’s sale.

“Bathurst winners are the most sought-after cars by collectors of race cars in this country so this one going on the market will get plenty of attention,” says V8 Sleuth’s Aaron Noonan.

“It’s 10 years since the car won Bathurst and there’s no doubt it would be a prized part of a collection.

“The nature of the modern V8 Supercar machines is that they use multiple engines over the course of their lives and running gear at the time that is focused very specifically on the life and kilometres put on the parts than the originality that collectors would be looking for in the years to come.

“But this 2004 Bathurst winner has not been butchered and now that it has been placed on the market for the first time I am sure it will draw a lot of people.”

The car is complete and noteworthy is the fact that it retains the actual Chev 18-degree engine that the car used to claim victory at Bathurst in 2004.

It comes complete with full running gear and is unbutchered with no major modifications.

It comes complete with log book and supporting documentation and is a major piece of Holden, Bathurst and V8 Supercar history.

Only serious buyers with serious intent will be considered.
