Le Brocq’s take on 2023 MSR teammate debate

JACK Le Brocq is keen on the prospect of being Matt Stone Racing’s senior driver in the Repco Supercars Championship.

MSR powerbrokers have liked what they’ve seen from the 30-year-old this season and are planning to build around him while recruiting a rookie as his 2023 teammate.

A seat has opened up since news broke of Todd Hazelwood’s move to the Blanchard Racing Team next off-season, and Declan Fraser and Jayden Ojeda have been touted as leading candidates.

Le Brocq meanwhile is nearing the end of his fifth full-time campaign during which time he has gathered wide-ranging experience – from being in a single-car squad (Tekno Autosports) to a four-car organisation (Tickford Racing).

It’s been a first MSR season of unfulfilled promise for Le Brocq, who has often flashed qualifying pace but is just 20th in the championship, owing largely to a series of incidents.

“It’s a really good vibe, I’m really enjoying it,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“We have obviously had our challenges this year at times but to be honest the team has been great.

“It’s a great place to be, it’s like a big family… I’m having the most fun I’ve had racing in a while and I think that’s the biggest thing for me, is putting the enjoyment back into it.”

The target for next year, when MSR will field a pair of Gen3 Chevrolet Camaros, is clear: learn from the carnage encountered in 2022.

“For me it’s about putting together a consistent run throughout the year,” said Le Brocq.

“That’s going to be my biggest challenge and I’m looking building that with the guys.”

Le Brocq was joined by debutant Aaron Seton for the recent Repco Bathurst 1000, the duo carrying damage all day en route to 14th place.

As for his view on working with a rookie teammate in the near enough future, Le Brocq welcomed it.

“We have just got to find the right guy to fit into the culture at MSR,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to it, I think it will be great.”
