Lowndes’ latest Formula 1 drive

CRAIG Lowndes will return to the wheel of a Formula 1 car this March, as part of the 2024 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival.

There, the 49-year-old will steer a 1988 Arrows A10B Megatron that was raced by Eddie Cheever.

The American took the Ross Brawn-designed car to the podium in that year’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

For Lowndes, it’s just the latest taste of F1 machinery in his illustrious career.

The seven-time Bathurst 1000 winner’s previous experience includes aboard a McLaren MP4-23 at Bathurst in 2011, a Dallara F189 Cosworth at the 2021 Bend Classic, and a Footwork FA15 as part of the 2022 Adelaide Rally Victoria Park Finale.

There will be multiple other Formula 1 cars and Bathurst Great Race winners at the March 16-17 festival, including the Ford Cortina which powered Barry Seton and Midge Bosworth to Mount Panorama glory in 1965.
