Masi returns to Supercars paddock at Bathurst

FORMER Formula 1 race director Michael Masi is back in the Repco Supercars Championship paddock for the first time in more than three years.

Masi, who was at the centre of the controversial 2021 F1 title decider, was last month appointed as the new chair of the Supercars Commission.

That followed confirmation that Neil Crompton’s tenure in the role had ended June 30.

Masi is a familiar face within Supercars circles, having been the championship’s deputy race director for a time, and spent the morning up and down the Mount Panorama pitlane.

His last Supercars event was the 2019 Adelaide 500.

Two weeks later, Masi was elevated within the FIA’s F1 ranks following Charlie Whiting’s death on the eve of the Australian Grand Prix.

Masi is not the only Supercars big wig roaming the Repco Bathurst 1000 paddock, with figurehead Barclay Nettlefold spotted engaging with fans in the lead-up to Practice 1 this morning.
