MCLAUGHLIN REUNITED WITH DJRTP TITLE WINNING FALCON IN USA

SCOTT McLaughlin has been reunited with the car that he drove to his first Supercars Championship title.

The IndyCar Series star posted a photo to his social media channels of himself at Team Penske’s headquarters in the United States standing with the Ford Falcon FG X that he raced throughout 2017 and 2018.

“Paths crossed with an old friend,” McLaughlin wrote.

Known as chassis DJRTP04, the car was the only Falcon that McLaughlin raced for what was then known as DJR Team Penske, the car having been brand new when he joined the team in 2017.

McLaughlin claimed his first win for DJRTP at the Perth round – a circuit the DJRTP04 remained unbeaten at – and set the first ‘three’ for a Supercar around Mount Panorama when he took pole position for that year’s Bathurst 1000.

He claimed eight race wins in total across the 2017 season, although an infamous penultimate-lap clash with Craig Lowndes in the final race of the season in Newcastle drew a penalty that cost him a first-up championship victory.

McLaughlin made good in 2018, winning nine races on his way to his maiden Supercars title.

The chassis is also the final Falcon to win an ATCC/Supercars title, with 2018 marking the final season for the iconic Ford model.

Kept by Team Penske as part of its exit from Supercars, DJRTP04 is headed for its permanent home at the team’s museum in Arizona.

The 2018 title-winner is the first of several DJRTP-era Supercars bound for the United States with three chassis, including the restored DJRTP06 – the 2019 Bathurst 1000-winning Ford Mustang – sitting in the Dick Johnson Racing museum awaiting to be shipped overseas.
