Missed opportunities the theme for MSR

MATT Stone Racing left Perth as the second-ranked Chevrolet team in Supercars, but with the knowledge that it left points on the table.

It was a contrasting weekend for MSR’s pilots, Cameron Hill and Nick Percat.

Hill qualified sixth and 11th for the two Wanneroo races but had to settle for a pair of 11th place finishes, with slow getaways not helping his cause.

The Canberran also was left to rue a near-miss with Percat in Race 1 that cost him three spots late in the piece.

“I made the weekend a little difficult for myself by not getting a good start in the races,” said Hill, who still has just two top 10 results at main game level.

“I had to push hard to try and make up some ground.

“In Saturday’s race the decision to take four tyres hurt us. In addition some over-enthusiasm from myself resulted in us losing a top 10 finish.”

Hill nevertheless was generally upbeat, and made a point of crediting his crew for their rebuild of the #4 Supaglass Camaro after a mechanical-induced practice crash.

Percat meanwhile charged to seventh in Race 1 but wound up just 21st a day later after collecting a penalty for contact with Jack Le Brocq.

Qualifying proved a headscratcher for the five-time Supercars Championship race winner, having put himself 13th and 18th on the respective starting grids.

“It was the one that got away and we will leave Perth happy,” said the #10 driver.

“It was good to see Cam at the front all weekend and we have a test day coming up before Darwin.

“I’m looking forward to another day to work through a few things and then go to Darwin, which is one of my favourite events of the year. I’ve had a few podiums at that track so I can’t wait to get there and get the Bendix car back up the front.”

Percat is sixth in the drivers’ championship and MSR is sixth in the teams’.
