Mostert on top again in rare Sunday practice

CHAZ Mostert has made a statement that he’s not about to rest on his laurels after his Saturday victory in Perth.

Mostert topped Practice 3 – a rare such session for a Sunday – to suggest he’s every chance of contending for another win today at Wanneroo Raceway.

Broc Feeney was the early pacesetter, on a 55.1286s, from where the time didn’t dramatically improve.

Will Davison eclipsed the third-year Triple Eight driver just before the halfway mark, and Mostert then leapfrogged the #17 Shell V-Power Mustang moments later.

Mostert further improved to 54.9868s after which he hopped out of the car early.

The two-time Bathurst 1000 winner was the only driver to log a sub-55-second lap, with Davison his nearest threat ahead of Will Brown, Thomas Randle and Ryan Wood.

The latter could have been even higher if not for being baulked on the first flying lap of his last run.

Brodie Kostecki was only 16th despite having saved tyres yesterday, while Team 18’s dire weekend continued with David Reynolds and Mark Winterbottom 22nd and 24th respectively.

Qualifying for Race 2 starts at 12pm local time (2pm AEST), ahead of another 55-lapper.

Again qualifying will be run to a three-part knockout format, with Q1 accounting for four drivers and Q2 another 10 to leave a final 10 duking it out for pole in Q3.
