Mostert praises ‘Formula 1 level’ Adelaide 500

THURSDAY pacesetter Chaz Mostert has reserved praise for organisers and backers of the reborn VAILO Adelaide 500.

Having once looked like the South Australian street race would be gone for good, the event came back with a bang in 2022 and has already made quite an impression in year two of its second life.

“Two years in a row, VAILO and everyone, all the sponsors for this event, have really stepped up again,” said two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Mostert.

“Everything looks fantastic, it really feels like we’re a Formula 1 level for this weekend, so it’s special to be back here.”

Mostert made it extra special last year by winning for Walkinshaw Andretti United in the team’s final round as a Holden outfit, with teammate Nick Percat completing a one-two.

Twelve months on, they’re still chasing a maiden victory with Ford.

“This year it has been awesome representing Ford but some teams have finally got the tick for the win for their Ford team but unfortunately for me and Nick, we have been close plenty of times but we just haven’t been able to win,” said Mostert.

V8 Sleuth’s coverage of the VAILO Adelaide 500 is proudly presented by Bad Boy Mowersexplore the world of Bad Boy Mowers with the new Spring/Summer catalogue of high-performance mowers here.

“So I think we’re more hungry for the win, more to get our first win for Ford with WAU, more so than looking back at the history (of repeating last year).

“You’re only as good as your last race and Gold Coast we had good qualifying speed but our race car was a little bit tricky, so that’s been our focus coming into this weekend.”

Seven different teams have tasted victory this season: Chevrolet’s Erebus Motorsport, Triple Eight, Team 18 and Matt Stone Racing, and Ford’s Dick Johnson Racing, Tickford Racing and Grove Racing.
