Mostert reflects on first season back with Ford

CHAZ Mostert’s return to Ford was hailed a homecoming, as Walkinshaw Andretti United made the seismic shift across the brand divide last off-season.

What eventuated was a mixed year, Mostert enduring the second winless season of his 11-year Supercars Championship career, but ending up as the Blue Oval’s best ranked driver (fourth) in the standings.

The 31-year-old defied parity concerns early in the season to be points leader for a time and took a total of six podiums on the year – a tally only bettered by the two drivers from each of Erebus Motorsport and Triple Eight.

“We ended up P4 in the championship, we can’t be disheartened with that, it’s been a hard slog this year,” he said.

“We didn’t get a win this year which I am pretty disappointed about but we have plenty of trophies and podiums and we fought hard to the death.”

WAU team principal Bruce Stewart surmised: “We’re exhausted but also very proud to have Chaz Mostert as the best Mustang driver in fourth for the season.”

Wood finished his single Super2 season with a bang, winning both Adelaide races.

“He scored the most wins and most pole positions in the Super2 Series and he is a super-exciting talent for the future for Ford fans and WAU,” said Stewart.

Mostert meanwhile reserved praise for Percat, who heads to Matt Stone Racing on a two-year deal.

“It’s been a great two years with Nick as a teammate, if you told us 10 years ago we would be great mates we would have laughed but I now have a lifelong friend and wish him all the best next year!” said the 2023 Barry Sheene Medal winner.
