ONE of the staples of the Australian motoring media landscape, MOTOR magazine, is being retired after 825 issues covering 68 years.
Wheels Media today announced the masthead, originally known as ‘Modern Motor’, will be retired and the last edition will be in July, which goes to print in June.
Known for its performance car reviews and news, MOTOR’s demise represents the next step in changing market dynamics and consumer preferences in the digital age and marks the latest print media motoring publication to be retired.
Wheels Media CEO Christian Clark said: “Today’s decision was certainly one of the hardest we’ve had to make in the history of our business.
“Market conditions are driving a consolidation of titles across the industry. In terms of consumer demand and long-term sustainability, one new-car masthead in Wheels – as part of a comprehensive multi-channel digital and print offering – makes best sense.”
Current MOTOR editor Andy Enright and much of the MOTOR team will move to roles within Wheels and WhichCar.
