MSR closing in on Le Brocq replacement

THE race to the probable last seat on the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship grid is heating up.

All eyes are on Matt Stone Racing and who it will choose to succeed Erebus-bound Jack Le Brocq.

MSR owner Matt Stone has indicated a desire to draft in a proven driver alongside rising star Cameron Hill, who is off-contract but expected to be retained.

Race winners Scott Pye and Nick Percat are still on the hunt for a gig next season, and there’s thought to be plenty more interest in piloting the #34 Camaro.

Stone is staying tight-lipped on the matter, but while MSR could conceivably play the waiting game and drag out a decision until after next month’s Bathurst 1000, he says that is not on the cards.

“We will be aiming to put a release out pretty soon about part of our plans for next year, and then potentially a further insight into the rest of it leading into Sandown,” he told V8 Sleuth.

“Sandown is only next week, so that may be after Sandown, but we’re certainly far progressed at putting it all together.”

Stone also confirmed the team’s third Gen3 chassis is coming along nicely, in line with the previously stated ambition of fielding a 2024 wildcard.

Next season’s field has taken shape over the past few weeks, with Triple Eight, Dick Johnson Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Grove Racing, Erebus Motorsport and Team 18 now all having cemented their full driver line-ups.

Cam Waters and Thomas Randle are set to stay on at a streamlined Tickford Racing, James Courtney and Aaron Love are the favourites for an expanded Blanchard Racing Team, and both Brad Jones Racing and PremiAir Racing are tipped to make no changes to their existing rosters.
