Ojeda staves off Russell for Bathurst 6 Hour win

JAYDEN Ojeda has won a dramatic Bathurst 6 Hour after a one-lap dash to the chequered flag.

It was a brutal six hours at Mount Panorama with a record 12 Safety Cars and the event’s first ever red flag.

The last of those Safety Car interventions came in the closing stages as Coleby Cowham and Paul Loiacono separately found trouble.

Those incidents, at Murray’s Corner and Forrest’s Elbow respectively, were cleared just in time for the race to finish under green flag conditions.

Ojeda, who shared a BMW M4 with Simon Hodges, did just enough to hold off Drew Russell for the victory.

The Russell trio, also including Drew’s brother Aaren and father Wayne, finished second while Anton De Pasquale, Adam Burgess and Anthony Soole rounded out the podium.

Tyler Everingham had actually crossed the line in third but was demoted two positions by virtue of a 15-second penalty for passing De Pasquale under Safety Car conditions.

Fourth ultimately went to Thomas Randle and the Kavich brothers, Ben and Michael.

Ryder and Tony Quinn plus Grant Denyer narrowly took seventh outright and the Class A2 win.

Class wins also went to Cameron Crick/Dean Campbell (A1), Scott Turner/Jordan Cox/Rob Rubis (B1), Brent Edwards/Cody McKay/Bradley McDonald (B2), Brock Giblin/Ben McLeod (C), Murray Dowsett/Mitchell Maddren/Lachlan Bloxsom (D), and Andrew Jackman/Cameron Beller/Mark Taubitz (E).

Halfway outright leaders Beric Lynton/Tim Leahey/Will Davison took sixth in the end after being set back by a tyre puncture.
