Order restored: Percat’s delight to be back with GM

WHILE Matt Stone Racing’s visit to Queensland Raceway yesterday was predominantly about second-year driver Cameron Hill, it did mark a key moment for the team’s newest recruit.

For Nick Percat, the chance to hop in for 10 laps under rules related to rookie tests provided something of a return to normality.

The first 288 races of Percat’s Supercars Championship career came in Holdens before he followed Walkinshaw Andretti United across the brand divide last year.

A rare podium-less season eventuated; now, Percat finds him back in the General Motors fold, driving an MSR Chevrolet Camaro.

“Ten laps went fast! It was as cool to be back in a Supercar. You always forget over Christmas how quick they are and how cool they are,” the 35-year-old reacted to his QR outing aboard Hill’s #4 entry.

“It was amazing to be back in the GM product – the family will be happy – so it was a good day.

“It was good to get a little bit of a feel ahead of our test day next week in my own car and keep working with the team ahead of Round 1.”

Percat’s first drive of his #10 Camaro will come on Monday February 5.
