QR upgraded ahead of SpeedSeries showcase

TONY Quinn has delivered his latest lot of upgrades to Queensland Raceway in time for its highest profile race meeting of the year.

With QR again missing from the Repco Supercars Championship calendar, the venue’s showcase event of 2023 arguably is Round 5 of the Shannons SpeedSeries this weekend.

On the bill for the August 11-13 event is TCR Australia, National Trans Am, GT World Challenge Australia, Kumho V8 Touring Cars, Porsche Sprint Challenge, and the combined Australian Production Cars/GT4 category.

It’s the second straight weekend of Motorsport Australia action at QR, following the Shannons Trophy Series’ appearance on August 4-6.

Featuring then was Radical Cup Australia, National Sports Sedans, Formula Open, Hyundai Excels, and the Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia Scholarship Series.

Works completed in the lead-up included the erection of a large shade sail over the pitlane viewing deck.

Quinn has impressively overhauled the Ipswich circuit since purchasing it from John Tetley in October 2021.

The popular Scotsman also owns three New Zealand tracks: Hampton Downs, Highlands, and Taupo Motorsport Park.

It’s hoped that Supercars will return to New Zealand next year at the latter.
