Race-winning Schumacher F1 car set for Adelaide return

A RACE-WINNING Michael Schumacher Benetton Formula 1 car is returning to Australia – the site of its final race.

The Benetton B193B Ford was raced by the German superstar throughout the 1993 season, including to victory at the Portuguese Grand Prix.

It was the season before Schumacher sealed the first of his seven world championships in controversial fashion, following a clash with Damon Hill at the Adelaide decider.

The B193B’s confirmed presence at the 2024 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival is the latest impressive slice of F1 flavour for the March 16-17 event, with several other cars and personalities such as Guenther Steiner, Valtteri Bottas and David Croft also attending.

“This car is absolutely iconic and has an incredibly rich provenance,” said Adelaide Motorsport Festival event director Tim Possingham.

“Cars like this are only seen on track a couple of times a year and mostly only in the northern hemisphere at places such as Goodwood.

“We are very pleased to see that the Adelaide Motorsport Festival is attracting cars such as this.

“Our proximity to Europe, where these cars reside, is a challenge for us, but it is great to see that we are attracting more and more of these cars year on year and going from strength to strength.”
