Rain, power outage hit Bathurst amid parity deadlock

WET weather and a power outage have added to a tense build-up to the Repco Bathurst 1000, amid an ongoing storm over parity.

Teams were without power for approximately 90 minutes on Wednesday afternoon as they went about the task of setting up their garages and pre-briefing for the weekend.

The outage affected the circuit and a significant portion of the Bathurst township.

Rain meanwhile has persisted through much of the day, leaving teams to either abandon their track walks or tackle them via car.

Team preparations for the event have taken place amid ongoing uncertainty over a parity dispute that has led to a series of high-stakes meetings.

A gathering of all team owners scheduled for this morning was cancelled, replaced instead by separate meetings between Supercars and representatives from Chevrolet and Ford.

Teams were also spotted in separate meetings within their manufacturer groups at the circuit.

Ford has pushed for an aerodynamic upgrade kit to be approved for the weekend, producing the required parts and bringing them to the circuit.

However, the parity trigger has not been hit the required number of times since the last change prior to Townsville in July to mean that Supercars is required to act.

The Blue Oval squads want Supercars to take action to address a claimed imbalance between the cars regardless, while the Chevrolet teams argue that the process should be respected.

The chances of Ford having its proposed changes approved appear to be lessening the longer the saga drags out.

In the absence of any confirmed resolution, speculation has swirled over the outcome and whether any form of protest, boycott or legal action will follow.

Cars underwent their regular scrutineering as part of setup day ahead of opening practice on Thursday.
